Comic Verse & Quirky Cards

Children's Fiction & Audio Books

A million years ago (of course),
A mottled brown and yellow horse,
Started eating leaves on trees,
Which, with grass up to his knees,
Seemed a little odd.

But his descendants all have found,
That eating food way off the ground,
Is advantageous in the main,
As trees give shelter from the rain,
And as a very general rule,
The shade of trees is nice and cool.

But the reason why the tall giraffe,
Favours leaves instead of grass,
Is mainly down to wildebeests,
And their famous grassland feasts.

Herds of wildebeest (or gnu),
Produce an awful lot of poo,
And whilst this may be fertilising,
It makes the grass unappetising.

Each day a million new gnu poos
Hit the grass. Well which would you choose,
(If your neck was long enough)
The pooey grass or leafy stuff?

Gnu poo is seldom found,
Very far above the ground,
And so the giraffe's long neck evolved.
No more gnu poo. Problem solved.
